|

Hello everyone.
As Olleh is currently suspended and I've already been here a month with no phone, I'm going with a Korean speaking friend tomorrow to get a phone plan. I brought an unlocked smartphone with me, though from recent things I've read it seems that it won't work with Korea's cellular network (it's a GSM).
Having read that, I'm going to try and get a smartphone contract with either SK or LG.
I'd appreciate anyone's experiences and feedback with these carriers - Is it true that LG doesn't necessarily charge you a ton of money to break a contract?
I'm only planning on staying a year, so am planning on finding someone to take over my contract once I leave. I'm near Busan, so I figure it shouldn't be too hard, especially since I'll be leaving right as the fresh crop of March teachers will be arriving and getting their ARCs.
Anyhow, thoughts? |

All of the major providers were slapped with a 45 day signup suspension due to them giving illegal subsidies on phones...Olleh is the first one to go (the suspension ends April 27th), then SK, then LG. They found that when they suspended all three at once things got a bit crazy so they're only doing one at a time now. |

Not sure what phone you have but it won't work with LG for sure because they are CDMA. I bought nexus 5 16g for 459,000won from Google play store and using 25,000won plan(100mins talk 250mb data).no contract. You can get 1 yr contract too and get 2,000won discount or more if you choose pricier plans.
And you can use nexus phone when you go back home. I guess your only option is with SK now. Don't buy a new phone at store really bad deals these days and always with 2 yr contract. |

lg is rubbish and they are the only carrier that uses a radio band that no one else uses so if you buy a phone will lg there is a chance it won't work in other parts of the world. go kt and sk. |
