I'm considering taking a gap year before graduate school teaching English in Korea. I heard that you can teach at Universities with a masters degree though, so I'm wondering if that has to be an MA or if they also accept people with an MSc?
Thanks. |

I've only known one person who has gone straight from their home country to a Korean uni. However, that person had a MA TESOL, CELTA, and was an experienced teacher. Others that have uni jobs normally worked in the country for quite a while beforehand because many unis have face-to-face interviews with potential teachers.
It's definitely not impossible. It's just less likely. |

It depends where you want to work. If a the big cities I don't like your chances of landing a university job if you don't have any teaching experience (you didn't mention that in your post).
You might have luck in the country side. But be away that most university jobs require that you have a face-to-face interview and some even a demo lesson. So you would fly over as a tourist and through your hat in the ring with many people who have teaching experience.
I don't know your background (work experience in education) but if you just want to do a gap year just apply through a recruiter online and get a hagwon/after school/public school position. That way your future employer will fly you over and set up your accommodation.
If you have never been here before or know anyone here it will be a hard start up for you (and may be quite expensive) when you first arrive. |

In the past the answer would definitely have been yes.
Recently though the Uni's have been asking for some (usually two years) Uni teaching experience along with a Masters as a prerequisite to being eligible to apply. |

Yes, an MSc would work. I think most jobs/people use MA because they seem to be more popular. |
