I used to use OTO, but now i use Magicjack. Theres an App and i can call the US for any amount of time for basically free, and he call quality is the same as a local call. I can also get calls from a us listed number... While im in Korea! The call qualiy is better than a kakao call, and i also get a us number. This is great as i do a lot of business and i spend about 2 hours a week on the smartphone with the us.

Only bad thing is, the magic jack app cuts my phone battery time in half. So i have to turn it off when i am not expecting any calls to my us number..

Anyone else have any other tactics?

Have you tried google voice? There's an app and the costs seem pretty reasonable. Leaving any app open is going to cut into your phone battery time though.

I have used OTO for about two years now and never had to pay anything to call my friends in the US or other places. Not sure why you are being charged for OTO service, but there is a free service with OTO that costs NOTHING!

I will stick with that in lieu of paying for a service I do not use regularly, IMO

Oto is great. You do get charged for domestic minutes though. Meaning A one minute oto call to the us uses up one minute of your korea domestic calling plan.
