I'm in desperate need of a good hair salon to dye my hair at. I went to the Green Turtle in Itawean and the guy just wasn't getting it. I sat there for 3 hours and in the end he didn't bother charging me since my hair looked exactly the same as it had when I walked in (despite the fact that he did both lowlights and highlights). Can anyone recommend a good place to go? |

whatever you do - DON'T go to Zen - what a crock - that thread went on like this guy was the Vidal Sasson reincarnate or something - I went there - he's a phony through and through - I wonder if he's even been to cosmotology school - do they even have to have a license here?
there's several Aveda salons here in Seoul - one near Gangnam, call 02 1330 and ask for the number or directions - also one in Ilsan - they are much much better - Aveda trains them and they have standards to adhere to - |

I have to agree with moosehead. My haircuts from Johnny have been pretty medicocre at best. I went back to him because I didn't know of any other English-speaking stylists near me. A friend of mine who has also stopped going to him asked him what shampoo she should use for her color-treated hair and he told it didn't matter and that her she could use any type of shampoo. Not really something a knowledgeable stylist would say. |

You could go to IE Belle in the basement of Hyundai Department store at Omokgyo Station.
They have a few girls who speak English there. |

Yep yep. I also have to agree. I went to Zen because of the high reviews I read on daves. I even traveled over 2 hours to see this guy. My haircut was...lopsided. i still haven't fixed it because I'm too scared to get it more messed up. I also had magic straight. His assistants burned me at least 3 times with the flat iron. The results weren't amazing either. I felt ripped off. I will never ever go there again. |

I'm still getting over my Zen disaster. A kind soul is bringing me supplies from the States to correct the horrible color job they did there.
What I didn't mention in the thread where I talked about it is the lopsidedness! I'm not talking slightly off... I'm talking the right side is 3 inches shorter than the left. I went in with a side part, as they cut it I told them please be aware of the side part and they assured me it would be fine... yet they must have cut me with a center part because it's all off.
I'll just get my fiance to trim my hair every now and again and be done with it till I leave Korea. |

wow... okay, so a little disappointed about zen, thats the only other salon I've heard good reviews about.
Did you guys get highlights done at Aveda and IB Belle, or just cuts? |

I'm sorry to hear about all the bad Zen experiences
My girlfriends and I go there, and I've always been very pleased with Johnny's work.
I can tell you where NOT to go. Don't even dream about going to Eunha BNC near Ewha Women's Uni....
I had shoulder length hair, had my roots touched up and walked out with only my touched up roots. My hair all broke off where the new color met the old as they blowdried my hair. Had to deal with a horrible pixie for months... I get upset just thinking about it *shudder* |

[Mod Edit].
(Looking to get my hair done, now thinking of maybe just sticking with the very obvious roots for the entire year. |

I've got nothing but good things to say about Zen. Lucy does my hair - highlights and a cut. It always looks great and I've had lots of compliments. I've never had Johnny so I can't say whether he is good or not - but Lucy is great.
I've been living here for almost 4 years and have tried lots of places - Eunha BC - disaster, Toni and Guy - even worse and super expensive(yellow-orange highlights) and another place in Sinsadong with a hairdresser who supposedly worked in Australia for 2 years - once again a terrible disaster with my hair ending up dull and greyish!!
The only person who has got it right is Lucy - she's just as good as my hairdresser back home. I suggest trying her if you want great highlights - she is the only hairdresser I've found in Seoul who understands the importance of using toner after highlighting hair! |

I went to Park Juns. The receptionist was fluent in English, they ask you if you want coffee or tea or anything to drink, they give you discounts if you become a member (they just need a phone number or 4 digit number, they don't send you anything). I got my hair cut and I loved the place. My stylist also knew English enough to cut my hair. I went to the one at GS Square in Songpa near the Garak Market bus and subway station. I'm going again soon. It's a lot cheaper here then in the states to get anything like that done.
