Betting and porn sites have been illegal in South Korea for ages - but it is only since Park took office that something was done at higher levels (or at all really...).
I find any censorship to be proof of end of democracy and any sort of free speech. But even Denmark and Finland do some sort of internet filtering Russia is more free in that regard even.
VPN wise, I can't help you more than to suggest TunnelBear, which many are happy with, since I didn't need them (I had my own back home) |

"I've heard about the porn sites being blocked". Yeah, I heard about that too. Funny what comes up around the office water cooler.... |

and yet the news reports a vegas style casino to be opened in Korea right next door to the whoor houses...
(OP, I borrowed one from a site (I get my movies from) that had a small attachment to re-set my trial period when ever it expires). |

Casinos are legal in Korea, at least partially (meaning assuming you can "get" a license).
Online gamling is not. Online gambling is not legal in many, many Western countries also!
The problem is mainly that online gambling is easily untaxed So, governments revert to other means. |

'Expat shield' is reasonable, especially as it's free, but the connection is pretty slow. I used it to stream the Olympics from the BBC iplayer site, and it was fine for the most part. |

Extreemely regulated, but not illegal:

Recent example from the board. (no other casinos are open to Koreans!)

Cheers for clearing that up.
I wondered why it was ok for Koreans to enter the casino in Gangwon but not the hotels. |

I've been to the racetrack and the betting shops (mostly for horse racing) a few times, and they were always rammed. As far as I know, this is the easiest way for Koreans to gamble, if you exclude the lottery. |

Im not sure about that, sometimes when I go into a mart away from the city centre, theres some right shady looking shit going on. Everyone looks at you as if youve just dragged dog crap in on your shoes.
Last night, the cashier had a wad of 50's as thick as my wrist which she hid when my friend and I went to buy some snacks. |

This works fine for using bbc iplayer and doesnt seem to affect the buffer rate at all. Ive also set it up to be the URL on my ipad and now I can watch foreign shows on that too.
