I recently finished my contract to come home to the UK. During my time working for the hagwon, it seems I was not paying part of my wages into a pension, presumably because my boss decided he would be able to save himself a little bit of money by (illegally) opting out of this. However, just after I left, the pension office caught up with him and demanding the annual unpaid payments (2.1 million Won). He claims he had though the pension deductions were optional and he now wants me to pay my 50% share. I feel like, although I should have known about these things during my contract, that it was his mistake. Of course, I'd not be able to get a reference from him if I didn't pay him, but would there be other consequences too? Thanks. |

You paying or not paying does not impact him in the slightest. In your pay stubs was pension being deducted? If it was not then he has all the money.
Anyways, you are British (I am guessing) so you don't get the pension regardless. |

IF you are a Brit there is no benefit to paying in. You can't get the refund.
If you are not planning to return to Korea there is no consequence to not paying it. Just put your old boss in your blocked/spam list and ignore him.

Thanks for your replies. It would impact him because I'd be giving him the money. (He has paid my 50% to the pension office too). I think I'll just say that I can't give it. |
