|
|
This question applies mostly to people from the UK (as far as I know) because Americans get the refund.
Does anyone know anything about the pension scheme where people can pay in and receive a refund which can then be used to pay into our own national pension back home?
All I know is its not the same as the governments so it may give me the option to opt out?
Thanks |

I called them last month. I am from the UK.
I got a 100% definitive answer which was you can only claim the pension, being a UK citizen, once you have reached (over 60? or 62? ) and IF you have worked in Korea for 10+ years!
If the answer to these questions are yes and yes you can, somehow have the K government pay a monthly pension into a UK account.
So you've only got another 20+ years to go Le-Paul!
UK pensions in the next 20 years are going to go downhill fast, so you should start planning and SAVING now! |

Cheers Lucas (I know youre from the UK ).
I knew it was a waste paying into the uk scheme but I hadnt realised it was getting that bad. its a pain in the arse from here trying to get a pension. When ai went home and asked last time, they said i couldn't even pay into a private pension if I had been outside of the uk for more than a year.
And thanks for the info on the korean side.
I suppose our only option is to stay here, and claim it when we retire to play 'Go' in the park everyday |

I will be leaving before I hit the 10 year mark!
I am fortunate enough to have learnt how to pickle vegetables since I've lived in Korea and collect cardboard and scrap in my spare time.
I plan to take these life skills with me to the UK in the near future and compete against the Romanians and Poles in the re-cycling industry. |

Would the 100% definitive answer be different if you spoke to a different person tho? Only cos I heard that you can claim it after 5 continuous years at same place?...unlike the govt pension for UK peeps |

Are you maybe mixing up the National pension and the private teacher's pension? The latter can be clawed back if you manage at least a year in the scheme, regardless of nationality. |

I dunno, I think the best thing for me to do is to go in person before I go home and speak to an 'expert' in the matter. |
