Basic Korean design is thus:

0. Power on button. (trust me, this is not bleeding obvious to lot of people)
1. clothes and detergent in
2. choose water level. If you don't then the machine can wait forever.
3. default is wash, rince, and spin-dry. leave it at that for now
4. push start button. This is not same as the power button.

I'm not surprised that your co-worker doesn't know. We get lots of first-time-away-from-home uni-students at goshiwon and they don't know to operate unfamiliar machines either. Laughing

You guys are really worried about washing machines? For mine, I just hit random buttons until it started working and then I walked away. Of course I haven't lucked into a Hot Water Wash since my socks are always so dirty.

My washing machine confounds me, the one time I tried.

Fortunately, my housekeeper always deals with it.

A pic would help. Snap one and upload it to photobucket or sth similar, and we can probably help.
