http://world.kbs.co.kr/english/news/news_Dm_detail.htm?No=106360

"During a press briefing Friday, the office said Kyunghee, Paichai, Sewha, Wooshin, Choongang, and Ewha Womans' University High Schools, will be turned into ordinary high schools from 2016"

What caused them to get demoted?

I'm not exactly sure about those schools, but in Gwangju there's a high school that is also being demoted. The wife says it's because they make the students study too much. One of our students has no time to even sleep because of the amount of school work she has to do. So, maybe the government is demoting schools in order to try and curve this burden on the students?
