Not that anyone here would likely consider them a "celebrity" but I met Steven Lopez (2 time Olympic gold medalist in Taekwondo) and the team trainer Herb Perez (1992 gold, and actor in a cheesy yet real TV series WMAC champions back in the day) in Gyungju at a bar during the World Taekwondo Championships in 2011. |

Haha that sounds awesome. just a passing autograph or did you actually get to speak to them conversely.
At least you had the opportunity to meet someone you recognized! |

I was basically hunting autographs at the tournament all of the days it was in town. As I was the only person in the stands those days with the US flag draped over the rail among a sea of other flags..and also out there beating a drum like a madman, I got to meet nearly all of the US team. Steven wasnt competing at that event (It was a qualifier for the 2012 Olympics and he, having won a gold medal in 2008 was automatically qualified) but I met and spoke with him quite a bit, as well as his younger brother Mark and sister Diana.
The meeting with Herb Perez was at a bar later one evening. I was with a friend having some drinks and a group of 6-8 came in. I could have sworn I recognized him, but was too afraid/shy to speak. Yet the wild chick I was with basically walked over there and asked who they were. It was Perez, and some other trainers/doctors from the team. He was cool enough to invite me over..we shared some beers etc.
I must admit though, I was a member of the US team from 2001-2003 prior to coming to Korea...and came here in 2004 on a taekwondo scholarship. So in some small and humble way I had a connection with them. As a side note, he pointed out to me another Korean gold medalist Son, Tae Jin who was also in the bar. I didnt get autographs of any of them, but I got pictures with them all. |

Not really "celebs" but certainly "known" individuals:
Dr. Stephen Krashen
Ban Ki Moon (pre UN days)
Surin Pitsuwan
Hines Ward
to name a few that I have met and either had coffee, lunch or drinks with.
There were a number of TV and K-pop performers/personalities back in the 2002-2008 period but none were memorable enough (at least not to me) to get "autographs".

Friends of friends or at various conferences.
My favorite is probably Surin although Ban Ki-moon was an interesting person (back in his Prime Ministerial days).
Stephen Krashen was here for the Kotesol conference in 2011 and continues to work the "Guest Speaker" circuit. He makes an interesting table guest at dinner.

A lot of the celebs I saw on the streets were filming tv shows or doing interviews.
Big Bang was cool, I only know one song by them. They were all really nice except one, he was really moody about something and kept yelling at his manager. |

Back home, I bought Samuel L Jackson a drink at a party. I was quite young and was probably the only time I've been 'starstruck'.
I also went to Beyoncé's after party and got to meet her and Jay Z.
I moved to Manhattan for a few yrs and due to my job, got to meet Tom Ford and the cast of Sex and the City. Several music artists too (Kanye West, Common).
I don't watch TV, so coming to Seoul didn't know/care who celebs were, until I spoke with them and asked what they did. I was invited to one of JYP's party's and became friends with Nancy Lang.
Just sitting in a cafe in Apgujeong, one girl randomly started talking with me and bought me lunch (Sunye, WonderGirls - only keep in touch via FB)
Also became friends (and grab coffee with sometimes) with Raina from AfterSchool.
Friends with the CEO of Metrocity.
Used to hang out with a KBS announcer/anchor (Sohn Min Ah). |

Wow! How did you manage this? What sort of job do you have that puts you in contact with so many famous people? |

Oh My days!! that is awesome. How did it feel meeting all these people and getting to know them? would you say they are very open people (in the sense that you are both equals and no status makes a difference 'celeb vs. non'? |
