I've seen a few job ads that say whites only.

Many more say gyopos only.

An even greater number say F visas only.

But more than all of these is females only.

This is infuriating!

Awhile back on this board I remember a poster said not to worry because jobs looking to hire females and jobs giving preference to physically attractive candidates are entry level positions that aren't that great anyway. This made me feel better, and I got quals, only to find out preference for females extends to the university level as well.

Come on...teaching at a university?! This is ludicrous!

It's true though. Look online and you will find evidence of this. Talk to people from all across the country, both male and female, and they can corroborate the veracity of this practice.

There is a poster on this board who said she is isn't really qualified to teach university classes and who thinks the reason she was hired (incidentally, with only a BA) was because she was an attractive woman.

I heard the reason women are preferred at child hagwons is the fear a man could be a child molester or a criminal. Perhaps at universities there is a fear the teacher could sleep with the students. (Obviously, for a male Westerner to do this would be much more scandalous than for a female Westerner to do the same.)

One would think a respected institution of higher learning would want to hire the most qualified person for the job, irrespective of gender.

You know what angers me to no end? To click on a link for a high end job, only to read, "Must be a woman."

As with relationships so too with employment.

Women are more easily manipulated.

Employers like that. They don't want to deal with all the back talk men give.

A high end job? It's eight hours a week so at 50,000 per hour that is about 32-36 hours a month. Multiply those hours by the 50,000 won and that comes to 1.6-1.8 million a month.

Granted IF you can get permission for another job and IF you can find one that suits the above schedule and IF it is close enough so you have time to get there...then yes maybe it would be worth it.

Probably due to the gepik layoffs. I'd be trying to snatch some teachers too if I was a recruiter.

If you go to saramin.com, Korea's biggest job listing website, you'll see half of the hagweon teaching jobs (math, Korean, science, English, etc.) demands female instructors.

Just curious, any reason why an employer would prefer an F type visa over an E2 visa besides less of a hassle that comes with an E2?

Because most of the hiring in education is done by women. Korean women have only recently been liberated and are still often beaten by their husbands and boyfriends. Korean women are often still angry about this (as they should be). Unfortunately they don't seem to understand that job descrimination against foreign teachers will not make them any more powerful. When I left my public school job my co-teacher wanted a woman to replace me, she told me that she always wanted to be a professor but in her generation the only professions that a women could have were either a teacher or a nurse. She could have still been a professor, she is either lazy or she cares too much about what others think.

I see the female only jobs a lot, but it doesn't really bother me. Exception being the time after I had an interview then being told they would prefer a woman, but would still do me the favor of hiring me if I will work a split shift instead of the hours I was originally told.

It's because women are willing to be subjugated and won't molest children, as all men are the opposite.

Because teaching young children is generally regarded as a "woman's job" here

I think it's funny that several of you are saying that women won't talk back. In other threads, people go on and on about foreign women being too aggressive. Heck, in several public schools they have those sayings plastered around, and one of them is "A dog is wiser than a woman because a dog doesn't bark at its master." I've seen it when I was teaching a camp at a different school.

Plenty of men are wusses. Plenty of women are strong.

I think that the real reason is because of the fear of molestation, though. Men tend to dominate when it comes to that kind of crime. It's unfair to paint all men with that brush, though, and the hiring practice is garbage.

They're more marketable and less likely to do something stupid.

Plus there are tons of guy teachers already.
