I do a bit and I went to an "event" which was cool, but it ended up being 25 foreigners for like 20 kids, plus the Korea staff. Its a good thing that locals and expats are more supporting social causes. Im sure others are more active in Volunteering here, so I wanted to ask:

What is a better way to support here (such as orphanages or the underprivileged)?
Volunteering your time and work (HFH, etc), or donating funds, or both, or neither.
Im just asking for other opinions. Thanks.

You could join the old people in the mornings picking up trash and go drink soju with them at 10am when they finish.

Of those 25 foreigners, I'd question the motives of over 50% of them - something to put on their CV/trying to attract ppl to their cult/ brag to their hipster friends whilst drinking coffee/put photos on their face book accounts of little orphaned kids....

Assuming you do make a bond with some of them, how will they feel once you leave the country? They'll be abandoned again.... Crying or Very sad

Work with animals/old people/drunks/homeless - leave the kids alone, unless you have lots of free time and will be in Korea for a long time.

I have sooooo much respect for people who do this kind of work - AND NEVER TELL ANYONE THAT THEY DO THIS KIND OF WORK!

Check out Meetup.com

There are tons of groups to get involved with.

I can't tell ya how effective donating money is......most places you can search to see the charities rating and how much actually goes to those who are in need. Since this is Korea I'd say the vast majority will just go to the charity exec's.

Get out and get your hands dirty.
