|
|
I have read several things about the timing issues with D-10 visa transfers, so I'm hoping for clarification.
My employing company is ending the program where I work next week. They say they will provide a letter of release, so I plan to transfer to a D-10 visa from my current E-2. When should I do that? My contract date ends early next year, but my work actually ends next week. Should I go to immigration next week or within a certain period after that? What is the requirement?
Also, what exactly do I need to bring, including fees?
Thanks! |

You should probably call immigration an explain the situation and ask. To switch to a D10 you need to bring your passport, your current ARC card, a photo or 2, (I think the photo booth at immigration is 7000원), fill out the change of visa form, fill out the looking for work plan a form that you write down how exactly you plan to find a new job over several months, it also asks you how much money you have in cash, your bank and credit cards, (You can find both forms online or get them at immigration). It will cost 100 000원 in stamps and 30 000원 for a new ARC card. They may ask for proof of residence too so bring your lease agreement if you have one. Keep in mind if you moved at anytime and didn't tell immigration or your Gu office within 14 days you could get in some shit or be fined (so I have read). |

The company sponsoring you has a short time limit in which they are required to report to immigrant that you are no longer working for them and to have your visa cancelled (I recall that it is around 10 days from the time you are no longer employed by them). The application process for the D-10 is not difficult, you will need to provide information about your employment and why you are no longer working for them when you apply. The immigration people are usually quite helpful, at least they have been to my friends who applied for a D-10. There is a 10 - 15 day waiting period to receive the D-10, but if all is in order, things usually go very smoothly. Good luck. |
