The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) and Financial Services Commission (FSC) have decided to put ING Life before a disciplinary committee next month for its failure to honor a policy contract for payment of accidental death benefits to beneficiaries of policyholders who committed suicide.

The contract stipulates that insurers should pay accidental death benefits for suicides.

The decision, however, is triggering controversy that it might encourage suicides,

Get an insurance policy out in your name, kill your brother/sister (assuming you're identical same sex) then assume their identity and collect the $

(this is a hypothetical situation)

I really could see this ruling to cause suicide rates to increase even more in Korea though.

I wonder what happened to the guy/girl who wrote the original insurance policy.
