My current contract expires June 27th, and I leave for Vietnam on the 28th (Saturday). My arc (visa) expires on July 27th.

From what I have read concerning obtaining a D10 visa, you are not allowed to obtain one until after your contract is finished. I have also read that you CAN obtain one before your contract is finished. Called 1345 today and the woman on the phone was unsure herself and generally not helpful at all with information.

I booked my tickets to Vietnam long ago, and cannot change the flight date as I have to be there as soon as possible for a cave expedition.

Is it possible to apply for a D10 a few weeks after my contract is completed, lets say around the 21st of July (upon my return to S Korea). Im interviewing for positions right now with a late July start date as I want to secure a job before I even leave Korea.

If my E2 is not expired yet (it does on July 27th), cant I just transfer it to the new school when I return from Vietnam? Is that possible? Seems like it should be.

any thoughts on what I should do? or can do?

Leave, return before your ARC expires and transfer or switch.

THANKS!!!!

i got overwhelmed with all the differing information

So... If I return before it expires I can switch it over to the new school correct or do I have to switch to a D10? The woman on the 1345 helpline was telling me it was not possible to switch unless I did immediately after my contract was finished. Lots of confusion from varying sources.

It seems like that would make sense.

You, as a person on your 1st contract/visa, have that 30 days between end of 1st contract and end of ARC. If your ARC expires before the transfer or change of status then you need to start again with a new visa. (not so bad provided you are not out of the country for more than 90 days).

Exit, turn in your ARC, return as a tourist, find a new job, employer applies for a visa confirmation number, you do a visa run. New documents are not needed if it is all done before the 90-days expires.

People who have had extended visas don't have that period (their ARC and contract expire on the same date) and there is no "grace period". They need to get the change of status done on "that day".
