|

Geneva (AFP) - Alcohol kills 3.3 million people worldwide each year, more than AIDS, tuberculosis and violence combined, the World Health Organization said Monday, warning that booze consumption was on the rise.

But far from everyone indulges. Nearly half of all adults worldwide have never touched alcohol, and nearly 62 percent say they have not touched a drink in the past year, the report showed.

In many cases it indirectly kills people.
Quote: |
drinking is linked to more than 200 health conditions, including liver cirrhosis and some cancers.
Alcohol abuse also makes people more susceptible to infectious diseases like TB, HIV and pneumonia. |

KAPPOW!
Alcohol also lowers stress, hence lowers blood pressure. It also makes people happier (by and large). The trick, as with everything in life, is not to abuse it.
I thoroughly enjoy alcohol. Glad it's there. |

Brendan Behan's wife said something along the lines of, "If he only would have stayed with the beer..."
Hard alcohol really takes it's toll. On the other hand, beer makes you fat and diabetic.
I've been warned to stay away from hard alcohol and I think it's probably true. Enjoy your beers, try to eat healthy and get some physical exercise every day or every other day.
Stay off the hard stuff. |

And, just watching You Tube interviews of Slash of Guns 'N Roses recently. the guy drank so much he had a heart problem. Some sort of pacemaker or something had to be put into his chest.
And the bass player, forget his name, also almost died from alcoholism. Some internal organ just burst or something.
Again, it's all hard alcohol, not beer, that was killing these guys. |

Reminds me of a Charles Bukowski quote: "This [alcohol] is going to help me for a very long time."
And something about, 'drinking is a form of suicide where you're allowed to return.' |

Sorry but I don't take the "World Health Organization" seriously, their name alone is ridiculous.
And if they want to talk about a substance that is destroying homo sapien's lives they can start talking about *sugar*, alcohol is nothing compared to that stuff. |
