Born May 24, 1941.
Whether you like him or not, the guy has had a big influence on music and on regular people.
I can always remember his birthday as it is the same as one of my brothers.
Also the b-day of Queen Victoria, who doesn't do much for me, being dead over a century. |

About 14 years ago I was living outside Nashville. Every summer they have a 3 day music festival called River Stages.....it's just an all day outdoor music festival spread out over 3 days on the banks of the Cumberland River.
Tickets were something like $10 a day (at least this is what I was told as my parents bought them.) The schedule on the last day was Blues Traveler, followed by The Wallflowers (Bob Dylan's son's band), Bob Dylan and Jimmy Page and The Black Crows.
General seating/stand as it was outdoors and it wasn't even that crowded.......I was standing there about 50 feet from Dylan. His voice was shot but he could still play and it was definitely a privilege having the opportunity to see him perform. |

Dylan is something else. He changed the music we all listen to. I bet you all rank one or more of his tunes as personally significant. He's also been a prodigious stage performer ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_Ending_Tour ).
He's always stuck to his own agenda, a true original. Exactly 50 years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeP4FFr88SQ & he's never really let up.
Happy birthday Bob & thanks! |

I'm a big Dylan fan, and seeing him in concert several years ago was definitely a bucket list moment. Ironically, I missed him when he was here in Korea, and saw him when I was back home for a visit stateside.
I know people rag on his voice, and they're not wrong per se, but I love his latter-day growl/snarl. But, then again, I'm kind of a homer so I guess I can't be trusted to be impartial. If you do like older Dylan, tho, Time Out of Mind (1997) Love & Theft (2001) and Modern Times (2006) are fantastic albums worth checking out. |

He's still alive? I thought he died with Tammy Wynette years ago. |

I've tried but never managed to get into Bob Dylan because of his horrendous singing. I have always found his songs to be pretty good when someone else performs them. Credit where it is due though. Great songwriter. |
