I need to bring my small dog when I move to Korea. I know that it's been done before. Any advice on when to mention it to prospective employers? |

I brought a dog with me (100 lbs). I didn't mention the animal in the interview, but when the job was offered, I made clear my intentions of bringing the canine with me (and that it would obviously be my expense for travel). My situation is kind of different because I work at an international school; however, it's not like this is back home where it doesn't matter (normally) to your employer what you have at home. Whomever hires you will be responsible for you and will be responsible for housing.
So I'd say nothing about it in the interview, but if you get a call back, let them know about the dog and offer them the option to reconsider. You can probably see my next comment coming a mile away, but I'm certain you wouldn't like it if you had agreed to perform a specific job then after signing the employer added "by the way you're going to also . . .." |

I would mention it, unless you want to find your own housing.
Some landlords don't want dogs in their apartments. |

I posted basically this exact thing on here back in Jan. and here I am in Korea with my (not-so-little) dog! Keep your dog to yourself until you are offered a position by a school. I was offered a handful of positions and of those only one blew me off because of him. It's not a huge thing but, your employer will need to know since you'll be living in an apartment under their name.
Best of Luck! |

I feel that any animal, besides a pet rock, is almost like a cancer when traveling. You have to continue to care for it and it leeches you.
Heck even having two dogs at home here in the States is a task.... animals are not for traveling. Keep it at home or give it up. |

...sometime after the job has been offered and before signing the contract. I listed it with my resume when applying for positions. Small dog should be no problem. Their quite popular here. Bigger dogs get a much different reaction. Also, Try looking for jobs that offer houses rather than apartments. They're rare but it does happen. |

Or don't travel. Pets are not disposal. |
