Brasil [3] - Croatia [1]
I think Croatia was robbed. What was the referee thinking?
Opinions on the game are welcomed. |

I'd be interested in seeing how calls go for Brazil in future games. Not wanting to be the guy to go all conspiracy theory but based on the reactions of the locals for simply having the games there, I can't help but wonder what their response would be if their team does poorly.
I also noticed there seemed to be some questionable calls in the Mexico-Cameroon match up as well. |

First of all, there is no conspiracy. The closest thing to it is maybe some African teams throwing unimportant games for cash from mafia/gambling match makers. In the 2010 Korean v Nigeria game, one of the Nigerian own goals was just a little too suspicious. That player may have received some money if Nigeria lost. Korea would have made it through even with a Nigerian win, unless they won big.
If players would stop their figgin' diving then it wouldn't be an issue. Also, you've always got to be careful in the box. FIFA could allow refs to checkout replays. But that opens up another can of worms. Or maybe have two refs out there...
Being a ref is tough, and with the speed of things happening, you just can't get everything right all the time.
Here's another one in 2002. Saw this one from the stands.

Brazil was awarded a penalty, when it should have been a free-kick (the Turk shouldn't have kick ball towards him). The game ended 2-1 for Brazil. Again, the player embellished it, and got lucky.
In the most recent case, it's a combination of diving, not seeing everything, and home field advantage. |

Well, Fred joins a long list of un-repentant shameless opportunitists. Too bad really, he is a good player, but his name is manured now. Join the the list: Diego Maradona, Thierry Henry, Jurgen Klinnsmann... and the teams that cheated and got caught but refused to repent: 2005 Juventus, 2012 Fenerbarce, ...
Don't get in the way of Sepp Blatter. He'll crush you like a bug. |

I kind of like Sepp Blatter because he wanted the WC all over the world. If it were just left to the Euro-elite soccer honchos, all WC's would just be in western Europe. |

On the other hand, he's stuck in the previous century and refuses to implement instant replay. |

Agreed. They also have to get rid of their trigger happy brand new stadium building, and seating requirements, when refurbishing old ones would make 100x more sense. South Africa basically has 8 of 10 new stadiums that are barely used, because most of the population just can't afford to travel to those stadiums.
And in Brazil, between Rio and Sao Paolo, there are like 10 stadiums in those where maybe any 3 or 4 could have been used to host games. I do understand spreading the tournament around to other cities. But oh no... FIFA insists on building a bunch of brand new 50,000 stadiums in some cities that barely top half a million. Sure, it maybe okay in countries like Korea and Japan. But most of the population isn't living in utter poverty in Korean or Japan. |
