This will have every codec you need.
http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/11/2/7/11-2-7-10.shtml
The codec mega pack..."download" is at the top right of the panel.
To find out which one's you have look in Control panel/Sounds and audio devices/Hardware then double click the codecs to see which ones are there. This is for Audio and Video.
To find out which codec you need, this prog can help...video toolbox:
http://www.moviecodec.com/downloads/tools.html
Instructions here:
http://www.moviecodec.com/questions/neededcodec.html
EDIT: Actually, if the video opens at all, then you probably have the right codec, but there may be a problem with it (a bad 'rip' of another codec), or something is wrong with the video itself. Usually if you lack the right codec altogether, the video won't play, or just the sound...or vice versa. |

Downloaded the codecs and i still have trouble with the colour.
Recently I had windows reinstalled due to virus troubles. I downloaded video before that that played fine but now won't play normally. Could it be there is something wrong with XP? |

Nah, i think it's just codec woes. That megapack installs all manner of codecs if you don't do a "custom" install and pick the ones you want manually. I do this to prevent overlap and pc confusion on which codec it should use, as many of them have associations with the same files. This is just my "feeling", not based on facts. I think having too many codecs 'competing' can be a bad thing.
As for the problem, you will just have to keep trying until you find the correct codec.
Most likely it's DivX 5 that you need. It's in the pack... |

I originally thought it was Divx that I needed. It was the only codec I knew of at first. So i tried that and it hasn't worked. There were a few that needed it and now instead of no image I now have an image. But the colours are all wrong.
Strangely enough If I play the videos on my wifes side of the computer (we split the hard drive into Korean and English Windows). The colours turn out fine without having to download any codecs. Except of the ones that do need DivX.
I got the feeling that there might be something wrong with the English xp. My wife's friend set it up on the computer. Pretty sure its a pirated copy. |

Do the total uninstall from the codec pack...just double click it and choose the uninstall option.
Reboot and re-install the media player 9 codecs.

Start from scratch again. See how it goes. I had many codec problems in the past and followed this procedure. |

Can you tell us what video you are trying to watch? That may help solve your problem. |

Well i had some simpson eposodes. File types were AVI, MPEG and some used DivX. They all played normally on other computers, and played fine of this computer before the HD was wiped clean and two Operating systems installed on here. They work fine on my wifes side of the computer, but not on mine. None of the files apear properly on my XP. Even the Divx ones don't display the right colours and I have that codec. |

I tried using two different log ins once. My wife and I. I found that some programs didn't work for both of us. I don't know why. I just reinstalled and now we just have one log in. I found that re-installing a program while logged in to the user that the program didn't work for, resolved the problem.
Talking about XP. |

Yet another program to try.
Go to this site and dl PowerDVD 5.0
Programz
Install it onto your side of the computer.
Go to Windows Update and make sure your XP English is up to date.
When you say 'none of the files appear properly on XP' do you mean the icons?
Go to this site
VideoHelp
Search or log on(register) and ask for help. |
