Here is my challenge.
Find the page where you book tickets for Korea Rail using a foreign credit card.
Find it in less than 5 minutes/one site visit - You are a genius or you have done it many times before. Or... you understand Korea.
Find it in less than 1 hour/a few site visits - You are pretty smart
Find it in less than 24 hours/several visits - I commend you for your patience
Find it in less than 2 days/more than 5 visits - Well, you are better than me
Find it in less than 3 days/more than ten visits - this is how long it took me (Obviously I didn't spend 72 hours searching)
Don't find it at all... You don't understand Korea.
Why didn't I give up? I almost did... I was just about to go to Suwon Station to buy my ticket in person. However, because I have booked tickets on the site before I knew it had to be somewhere... They have changed it and its location since I last visited the site though.
Fastest internet connections in the world for the worlds worst IE6 compatible only websites.
korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea korea!!!!
There! I feel better now. |

What the hell happened to the site? It's totally different compared to the old one. The page said the site was undergoing maintenance. It looks like it reverted to an older version and now there's some new page in English somewhere else.
Korail has always been screwed up in that your online reservation wasn't a ticket. You then had to to stand in line and retrieve it from the counter which is just ridiculous. This is a train, not an international flight. They also seem to be under the impression that everyone who uses the English page MUST be a tourist and rely on foreign credit cards and their passports. |

I kept getting server errors on the site... I really needed that ticket to Busan...
KOREA!
I think its possible to buy tickets using a local credit card now... but here's the catch: ONLY IF YOU CAN FIND THE FREAKING PAGE!!!
KOREA!
The website is clearly not built with the customer in mind. They seem more interested in telling us a bunch of corporate BS than selling tickets.
KOREA!
There should be a KOREA! buy tickets link right on the main page of the site.
KOREA!
They website seems like an aweful afterthought...
KOREA
Sorry... for some KOREA! reason I developed tourette syndrome over the past few days... KOREA
KOREA KOREA KOREA! |

My advice, brush up on your Korean and use the phone app. Love the phone app. |

Been out since 2010-ish. Didn't start really using it until 2012. It works with my Korean check-card.
You can book tickets up to 10 minutes before scheduled departure. Full-refunds if more than 24-hours before (maybe up to a few hours, not sure), otherwise they ding you like 10% |

You win the KOREA! prize!
Did you find it right off the site? I did a Google search and found this:
http://info.korail.com/2007/eng/eng_index.jsp
From here I found their corporate page...
And from there I got KOREA! lost.

For pretty much anything where there is a payment system in Korea you have to use the most recent version of Internet Explorer. This includes the system we use at my university. Who knows when or if any of the sites will ever been compatible with another browser. |

Where do you find the timetable? I can never find those things. If I want to go somewhere, I'm always going to the train station and hoping for the best. I mean the KTX is fast , but it totally defeats the purpose when you have to stand around for an hour or two waiting for a fast train to get up to Seoul. I mean cripes man! |

It looks like they've actually updated the entire Korail site:
www.letskorail.com
If you choose English you can see the new English site. |

Korea is generally idiotic when it comes to online payment systems, but Korail is an exception. Booking online has always been pleasant and efficient. The only downsides are no Korail membership options, you always pay full cost every time.

Also, foreign card payments accepted.
