I called SKT today to find out about unlocking my iPhone that bought in Korea because everyone I know has said that Korean iPhones are locked. I was even denied a SIM card while I was traveling because I was told that phones bought in Korea never work. The woman on the line told me that all smart phones bought in Korea are unlocked and have been since 2010. Has anyone heard of this and/or had experience with this? I will be leaving Korea soon and want to keep my device in Canada. Any advice?

I have had two iPhones from SKT and can confirm they were both unlocked. I took them to the US and used them with no problems.

unlocked and locked is one thing but also the model number. Look on the back of the phone it should say A and then 4 numbers. It might work back in Canada it might not. Maybe you can't get LTE with the phone in Canada and only 3G. I brought my iphone 4 that was unlocked to Korea and it would just not work with any sim card here. I am thinking it had to do with this https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/. BTW PM me if you want to sell the phone and it is a 5s.
