If the mom earns a good living, yes. If she's a housewife, no.

I think that a lot of women hold this belief. It's stupid. Look a the black community in the US of kids growing up without a father and you can see what happens.

Here's something interesting. For a girl growing up the chances of teen pregnancy highest to lowest are:

1) Growing up with a single mother.
2) Growing up with both parents.
3) Growing up with a single father.

==
Kids need both parents. Broadly, mothers provide emphathy, fathers provide structure. Without either parent a child will be lacking in that area.

And women need men, and men need women.

I saw an interesting documentary on the BBC about the importance of fathers. More and more research in this NEW area shows how important they are. If i find the link to that program, i'll post it here later.

Tell that woman she's a *beep*. Even better get her to talk about her relationship with her father (probably always working, always absent). Then tell her about the great relationship you had with your father because he loved you. Tell her that if her father was absent it means he probably didn't love her. Then walk away and let her rot from the inside. Sorry, that's a bit harsh. Oh Monday mornings! I should have stayed in bed.

I say, both are overrated.

By the way, that woman could well be a lesbian or perhaps she was abused by her father as a child, so one has to consider that she might be biased.

In the end, there are some good parents and then there are some crappy ones.

They f-ck you up, your mum and dad.

They may not mean to, but they do.

They fill you with the faults they had

And add some extra, just for you.

But they were f-cked up in their turn

By fools in old-style hats and coats,

Who half the time were soppy-stern

And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.

It deepens like a coastal shelf.

Get out as early as you can,

And don’t have any kids yourself.

This thread is just an excuse to start an anti-woman flame war.

I heard some guy say this. What do you think?

From a purely biological standpoint, she's quite possibly correct. Yeah, you need both parents to get the ball rolling, but after the initial act of conception, the father is essentially useless. Of course, once you look at the broader, societal picture, things are not quite as simple, but the fact remains that if the human race were nearly wiped out next week, you'd need far more women than men to repopulate the planet.

I think she's right, and I say that as a father. That does not mean fathers are unimportant of course.

http://www.debate.org/opinions/are-women-more-important-than-men

There is also a debate on who is better - men or women - fascinating stuff, even if equally moronic.

Human biology would suggest that you did have a father, as such I would argue that your initial statement is misleading.
