To offer better travel experiences, the existing travel resources and programs need sophistication, he said. As an example, Byun suggested that Korean hot spas, or “jimjilbang,” could become a whole new relaxation and healthy experience when combined with the centuries-old Korean traditional underfloor heating system of “ondol.” |

The immediate focus seems to be on young foreign tourists who are fascinated by Korean popular culture. |

First thing they should do is get rid of that stupid 28 degree rule in buildings. Any western tourist will come here in the summer once, overheat, get heat exaustion once, say this is effed up, and never want to come back. They need to get back to using normal air con again. Twenty eight degrees is not cool. Set it at 22 and forget it.
Better yet, keep the western tourist out in Summer and parts of spring too. There's either yellow dust obscuring the sky in a whitish tint or disgusting humidity blocking out the blue skies. I would suggest bring tourists here in Autumn after Septmeber 25th and through the winter months. Clear blue skies, being able to see the mountains, and less humidity is perfect and will showcase Korea at it's brightest.
ALso, don't shut down the damn beaches and waterparks. If they need to operate on reduced hours focusing on the afternoons and early evening, so be it. Many white people will have no problem swimming at Haeundae until the middle part of October, maybe even into the later part of October.
In my opinion, October is the best month in Korea where the weather is warm and dry with a semi Meditteranean feel to it. (Low to mid 20's C.) Just wish I had my vacation during this time.
Korean Summer and Spring should be marketed to other nearby Asian countries. (Don't bother with mentioning Cherry Blossoms; Japan will have more anyhow.) Autumn and Winter shoul be marketed to western countries and anyone from a more northern climate. |

You do realize that pretty much every place in the world that is in a climate like Korea's closes beaches and waterparks at a certain date right?
Also, October is not warm here. I should know because our sports day is in mid October every year and it's always cloudy and chilly/rainy.
I'm convinced now that you either love the cold, or just have a VERY low tolerance for heat. |

I might get around to emailing these fellows suggestions one day. But the English sites here are never helpful when it comes to contact. So, found this on the Korean version of the site. E Mail: [email protected]

'Cause really, it doesn't do any of us good to complain here. |

He was forced out last year after allegedly going on a sex tour of Japan.

No loss at all because he tried to take credit for Korea's rising number of tourist arrivals. Anyone who has worked with him knows just how useless that guy is outside of speaking Korean and knowing how to kiss ass in this country. |

I'd think debauchery is the way to go. Legalize prostitution and more casinos. Koreans can do nightlife and discos. I don't think the natural wonders are wonders to the rest of the world, or the culture is interesting enough. Nightlife seems to be the key. |

Really? October here is similiar to mid August weather in Canada and the beaches are open there. Plenty warm. Folks from Canada, a northern US State, and Northern Europe (England, France, Germany, Poland, Scandinavia) will not find that time of year cold. I don't. I wear shorts and t shirts in that time while many natives go bundled up in coats and sweatershirts. (Heck they even do it in September, when there's still humidity in the air. Yuck!)
October is plenty warm as it's above 20 degrees every day (rainy days aside). I go biking a lot during that time. Best weather, dry, clear, blue skies, warm. Korea would be paradise if the weather were like that for a longer time. |

While I agree with you about the lack of a/c, looking at the numbers, 85% of visitors to Korea are from Asia. Korea isn't a tourist destination for Western tourists. Changing a/c settings isn't going to change that. |

Yes, I realize that. But, Autumn and Winter are under utilized and have great potenetial. This is why I would suggest making some changes to the tourism strategy or at least use the two cooler seasons to market to westerners from Northern Countries and use the two warmer seasons to market to wamer nearby Asian Countries.
Winters here are not too bad to most us (except maybe the Aussies and South Africans). If there are 3 or 4 days with a cold Siberian wind where the temps get pushed down to minus 15 windchills, then you can tell me it's cold. Otherwise, it just gets a little chilly in winter but not freezing. I hike mountains in winter here. I go for walks through cut down rice fields, especially on those minus 15 days. Ha ha. Exillerating. (Yes, I do turn on the heat at night in winter. Usually, I'm around 17 degrees overnight when I sleep and maybe 21 degrees for a couple of hours in the evening when I get home.)
October is the best month, November is probably the second best month, and May is the third best month. But Spring is unpredictible wheather the weather will be clear or muzzled over with yellow dust and the like. That's why Fall and Winter are best as they're often more predictible.
As implied, most Northern peoples won't bat an eyelash at the weather during the cooler months and will swim at Haeundae through September any time of day and maybe through most of October only during the afternoons if they bring in enough tourists and use these as a selling point. |
