|
|
I went to immigration today to transfer my D-10 to an E-2, and was told I would need to submit a new medical check because the one on file is too old. It seemed as though I was being denied the transfer until the check is completed, even though a regular E-2 applicant would have 90 days.
Does anyone know the actual policy and process, including processing times?
I'm already pushing it with the transfer because I'm supposed to start work next week. |

No details on actually policy, but basic generalities. If you are changing schools(transferring) the chance of having to do a health check goes up.
Go do the health check. It will suck to have to pay out about 100k won but it can be done in 2 or 3 days. Go in get done, wait day or two for results, apply for E-2. You are not completely screwed just delayed a few days. Remember the transfer from D-10 to E-2 is that day when granted. The wait period is usually due to waiting for card.
The 90 days is actually for registering for ARC. Yet you already are registered. This is interesting cause sometimes immigration will give some leeway on missing papers. I can see the logic of giving the E-2 first and requiring the health check. But, the problem is people will ignore the request cause they have the E-2. So to get it done immi asks for the paperwork before they grant the visa. |

I was not asked for a new health check nor did they waste time giving me a new ARC card. They just wrote a note on the back of my existing ARC. This may be because my wife told them that I would be applying for the F6 after we gathered the paperwork though. |

I would do this and have done this: If your school really needs you to start when you said you would just start working. Get the health check ASAP, ask your boss to print out a new contract that has the date of your first day of work altered to be the day after or two you can go into immigration with your health check. Everyone will be happy. |

My new employer thought I would need one, though I couldn't find that stated as a requirement anywhere. When I gave it to the woman at Immigration she just cocked an eyebrow and handed it back.
My experience has been that what is 'required' may depend on the office, attendant, prevailing winds, etc. But it's always good to cover your bases, and obviously, if they say they need it, you're most likely going to have to provide them one. I'd just advise trying to find the least busy hospital you can. |
