|

Hello,
I have an M.A. TESOL, three years experience teaching composition and ESL at the university level in the U.S., and a year of experience on the JET Program (where I am now). I'd like to move to teaching at the university level in Korea.
Are there reputable recruiters that specialize in university level positions in Korea?
Also, is there a sticky regarding university level teaching here on the Korea forums? I wasn't able to find one.
Thank you. |

Numbers for convenience.
1) - NO BUT university language institutes (hagwons attached to unis) sometimes do. You need to keep an eye on the job boards. There aren't any recruiters who specialize in this since the numbers are so low.
2) - No but there are a number of threads on the subject. You can either use google to find them (the search engine here doesn't work well) or just start thumbing back through the threads.
Universities typically do their own recruitment.
MOST of the time you have to be IN Korea to interview (at your expense).
Uni jobs for start of the year are USUALLY posted on the job boards or on uni websites beginning in Sept/Oct with interviews taking place in Dec.

Not that I know of. There are, however, tons of old threads around that can be found w/ google with lists of universities with links to either contact information and/or job advertisements that are dated.
As for the positions themselves, be aware of two things:
1) They are all feet on the ground positions. If you are not here to interview, you will not get the job. From what I have been told by admins at a few different high level unis around Seoul the jobs that are posted are getting 100+ qualified applicants that are currently in Korea.
2) Many do not get posted 'publicly' on job boards like Dave's, craigslist or other sites and are rather posted only on the university's website (from time to time it will get copied to these boards). This means that you need to be on top of things. |
