I am thinking of applying to Korea International School Jeju (already applied) and Branksome Hall. I see on the map that these schools are really out in the middle of nowhere: more than an hour to Jeju City and even 45 minutes to tiny Seogwipo. I can read the school reviews on International School Review, and they are pretty bleak, mostly because of the location. Anyway, would love to email a bit or chat with someone presently or recently there.
Thanks, |

I did some projects with these schools and I think they would be great places to work for the right person.
That person would need to have their own transport because it is quite far from each of Jeju's cities.
That person would need to enjoy the outdoors because the social life at the schools are not great.
That person would need to be able to deal with the fishbowl of living and working in constant proximity to the students and sometimes their moms too.
Most of the traits necessary for people to thrive in these jobs would only be acquired by people who have lived in Korea many years.
However, most of the International Schools only recruit at job fairs and they hire teachers who hop from country to country around the world. These would often have lived in the major cities of China or South East Asia as most International Schools are located in population centers, which function as expat hubs (e.g Shanghai, HK, Singapore, Bangkok and the like)
Therefore, most of the teachers hired by these schools fail to adapt, hate their time in Jeju and leave quickly, resulting in high turnover and poor knowledge retention. |

Also, the package as a local hire will most likely suck when compared to an overseas hire. |
