Yep, I didn't believe it was possible. I drove for over two hours to check this place out. Go down to the Jeolla region to a town called Gurye. It's between Jeonju and Suncheon on that expressway? Anyways, take route 861 I think to Jirisan National Park. Ride up this winding switchback to a place called "NogoDan". There's a parking lot at 1100 meters up and then you walk to the site for an hour and you're 1500 meters above sea level. Bright blue skies, sun shine, white puffy clouds. You can see the humidity down below obsucrring the view, but in front of you, it's hot, but mostly dry and later in the evening a cool breeze. Piece of heaven. Only downside is the retards running the place shut it down at 3:30 pm which is stupid and illogical. The peak heat only goes away by 3 pm at this time of year and the early evening is when you really want to be up there.
Anyways, get there by 2:15 pm maybe a month later and the peak of the heat would be around 2 PM by then? Get there by 3:30, you can see the site. Then, after, take the long way down. There's this KBS tower nearby you can hike near and an open spot if you want to sit down and have a picnic. If you're already in, they won't come chasing you out, I think. Stay up there till 5:45ish and then start to make your way down slowly. You'll get to the parking area by 6:30ish and then you can make it for home. Just get into the upper area before 3:30. They actually have a couple of booths where young guys will sit and watch the entrances further up to make sure you don't go a moment past. Makes no sense as it doesn't get dark until well past 8 PM. Bunch of sparkling @$$hats.
That said, if you can make it at the right time, avoid the peak heat of the day, and avoid the booth watchers, it's a really enjoyable spot to see. You'll almost feel like you're back home in Canada as long as you don't look too far down. Long, long drive, but a nice escape.
I think Naver maps might even allow you to see the site via street view or trail view. That's how I discovered it. Good weekend getaway. Wish I had of stayed overnight in a motel in one of the neighboring towns and went back a second day. Maybe next time. |

Korea is such a beautiful country, especially when you find somewhere quite where there are no people. |

Ha ha. Ain't that the truth? Problem is when you want to go somewhere, so do 1000 other people. There's no escape. Aahhhhhh!!! |

If you love heat, humidity, and whitish skies, you'll hate it up there with an incredible passion. In late afternoon or early evening, it reminds me of Canada climate and season wise. A bit hot, but mostly warm in summer, dryer. Probably colder in winter. In early May, I saw some mountains a thousand meters high elsewhere that still didn't have leaves on the trees near the top - just like Canada (later spring). Down below where I was, the leaves were out on the trees and things were well in bloom. |

I wore shorts and a t shirt. Some Koreans wore light coats. Someone on here recently asked me if I was part polar bear. I like cooler temps. Think it was a few degrees cooler and little to no humidity up there. So, dress lightly like me, but bring a sweatshirt and lots of water just in case.
Anyways, make your own call. |

I stopped wearing shorts in the mountains since I got a tick on me leg last year.
Thinking it might be time to start wearing them again... |
