Now usually I'm not really one for celebrity gossip or the goings on with them in any real form but for some reason this story irks me.
Quote:
The local daily Segye Ilbo reported Monday that Park had attempted to smuggle 82 amphetamine pills from the U.S. into Korea back in October 2010 via international mail. She was caught by customs officials at Incheon International Airport and the case was referred to the prosecution.

In Korea, the drug is banned, even for medical use, as it can cause serious harm to human bodies when abused.

I guess to get yourself drugs that are illegal in Korea, all you really need is a prescription from a university hospital in the US, say you don't have time to go back there very often, and then have a family member ship you whatever it is you need.

While it’s become a situation where I have no choice but to reveal this, Park Bom had, until four years ago, continuously taken medication prescribed to her by an American university hospital. Due to a busy schedule, she was unable to return to the States for some time, and in the process of having her mother and grandmother receive the medications through post for her, it was stopped at customs, as amphetamines are banned in Korea.

Thankfully, the hospital provided medical records and prescriptions for the investigation, and the case was wrapped up with no further issues.

I dont think its news that the american health system is a bit fudged up is it? In this case, that would be getting a repeat prescription without signing for it or getting re-evaluated from a doctor before the dose was prescribed.

that aside though, I cant say this for certain, but Im pretty sure (about 95 percent) south koreas claim that you cant get any type of amphetamine, is bulkshit.

Why is that irksome? It seems to be a pretty rational decision by customs. The "illegal drugs" she had is used widely in the USA and was prescribed to her legally but she didn't know it was illegal in Korea. I would be angrier if customs came down on her instead of just giving her a warning and letting her go realizing she probably isn't running some drug ring. Apparently she immediately got a new drug she can get in Korea to replace it. The Korean news is making a bigger deal out of it then it really is.

Deep down, do you really think she didn't know? To me, that seems like one of the first things you would check into. If you frequent this sight even semi-regularly, there seems to be a thread every now and then about people saying they're prescribed such and such drug, can they get it in Korea. And do you really think that with the amount of pharmacies in this country that she would continue to think 'well I think I'll just continue having it shipped to me from the states instead of just popping down to the corner mart and picking up a few pills'? But you're right, she probably didn't know. Rolling Eyes

Do you know what exactly is in every single medicine you are given and if it's legal or not in other countries? And considering that these are pills that apparently control her depression, going down to a pharmacy and just taking any pill (especially considering how depression is taken here) is not an option I know many people would take.

Seriously, customs didn't think it was a big deal neither should you. If you know anything about the drug laws here, you would know they don't give celebrities/rich people a pass on drug smuggling. Several idols careers ended for stuff like this. Tiger JK almost went to prison and was essentially banned from performing for years due to a similar case.

bulkshit?

Is that bullshit in bulk? I agree with you there, but are you talking about getting them via prescription or illegally via port of Pusan?

Bukshit is a special type of Korean bull.

I meant that she should have been signing for them before they were given to her. That is a flaw in her homes system rather than Koreas.

I meant that i find it hard to believe that amphetamines are not available in South Korea on prescription. I would be even more surprised if a pharmacist could honestly tell you what are the ingredients of korean, manufactured boxed prescription medicines.
