temp teaching at Summer Camp (Cheonan, Chungcheong Nam province)
compensation: 7~800,000 won for 10 days
English camp in Cheonan, Chungcheong Nam province (충청남도 천안시)
July 28~August 9
8am~9pm
Accommodation and food will be provided free.
You will not work on Saturday and Sunday.
salary: 7~800,000 won for 10 days.
These camps are absolutely raking in the dough, and it's not hard to see why.
6363 - 7272/hour, the girl working at baskin robbins makes that.
To be fair, there are some camps paying about 2,000,000 + for a 14 day
8 hours per day session, but this one just takes the cake! |

| The summer camps have not been paying well for the last 4 years or so. I did one four years ago and it was 4 weeks for 3.2. Not great money, but not bad either. It was one of those work your ass off 5-6 days a week type deals. |

That's two weeks? That wouyld be equivelant to making 1.6 million a month. I would think, considering you're staying overnight? The pay should be close to being double. I've never done them. What were they several years ago? Close to what I suggested? |

What?
I did a 10 day English camp in 2012 for 2.4!*** I taught the same 8 students from 9-12, and again from 1:30-4:30.Evenings/weekend was free time. Their English was very high level. I even had an " personal assistant" (English major-university intern)who was required to teach for two of those hours.
***But I think it was a bunch of rich kids because
every day a different parent would send in an evening "Thank you snack" for the staff/teachers. We stayed in the dorm. Each teacher had a private room and each evening a delivery of 400 Krispy Kreme donuts , 100 Subway Sandwiches, or way too many Big Mac Sets or 20 buckets of KFC chicken or 40 large pizzas from Pizza Hut or something else really crazy, 12 Baskin Robbins Ice cream cakes, etc. One parent even sent each teacher a case of tangerines from Jeju Island. It was crazy insane wastefulness. A lot of it went uneaten. It seemed like they were trying to "bribe" us into working hard(er) at teaching their precious scholars, English.
The evening before camp started, the director took us (8 teachers) to E-mart and said to spend 2 million won on "fun"supplies. They had already provided a "special book" they had published especially for this camp.
On the last day at the ceremony, instead of getting paper certificates, each participant received custom engraved plaques along with an expensive gift and a personalized movie featuring them!
For the private camp, I heard that each student had paid an exorbitant amount of cash for a ... Total English Immersion Experience from Ivy League Grads who had flown in from America.(To my knowledge none of us were Ivy and none of us had flown in.) One teacher was even a Korean who was told to say she was born and bred in Manhattan, New York.
That was a great/unique/interesting experience but so different from my "free" public school camp in 2013, that provided 30,000 won for supplies for three weeks for 30 kids!
TWO EXTREMES so I'm sure there are lot of camps in-between! |
