Hi all,

I have heard that if my current boss decides he doesn't want to give me a release letter, he basically controls my visa until it expires (end of the contract). So if he says no, I basically continue to work for him, or quit my job... but won't be able to apply for a new visa until my old visa expires.

Is this (awful news) true? My boss seems very nice, and I am giving him thirty days, so I hope it doesn't come to that...

It has been an issue and in some immigration offices is still practiced.

How does China sound to you?

How to quit and get your release letter in Korea:

Go to the boss the day after payday with 2 letters already printed out and ready to be signed - these are your letter of resignation, post-dated, and your letter of release, post-dated.

It's simple - your boss signs your letter of release, you give him your letter of resignation, you work out your notice and he finds another teacher. Tell him if he refuses, you refuse to teach until he signs. He can either lose you after a 30-day notice or lose you immediately.
