Hello,

I seem to be in a unique situation. I got a D10 visa without a LOR because my previous employer was treating me unfairly. Immigration accepted it to give me a D10 visa, but when they issued my visa, they told me that I will need a LOR to transfer to an E2.

This is strange, because everything I've heard is pointing to me not needing one. I also asked the immigration hotline at 1345, and they said I don't.

Immigration in my area has been pretty helpful, as I said they didn't have to give me a D10 as I didn't have a LOR, but they went through the hassle (and of course, so did I), to get one without a LOR. Actually, immigration says they did not get a letter of release but in my opinion, they did. My employer sent a form saying when I was employed and why I was fired among other things. They say it's just a 'letter of retirement', ie. just a document saying I was fired...but that's what a LOR is. The format is a little different than what I normally see for LORs, so I think that's why they won't accept it.

I told them the form they have is the LOR but they instisted that no, it's not, and they refused to give me a copy.

They just told me to try with another immigration office and maybe they won't require the LOR. I don't think this should be an issue if I go to another part of Korea and that's where I'm focusing, but I have a couple of interviews that would require me to go back to the same immigration office. Is it possible for me to register with another office? Is there anyway to convince this office that I don't need a LOR or already have it? If I end up getting either of the jobs, I will need to go back.

Change immigration officers (go to the other desk) and you might get lucky or change districts.

You have to use the immigration office in the district you reside in (even in your employer is in another district).

case in point:

    I lived in Seongnam-si/Bundang-gu.
    My employer was in Gwangju-si.
The employer had to deal with the immigration office in Suwon but
I had to do everything at the immigration office in Seoul (they had jurisdiction over my place of residence).
