|
Having been in need of a sim card for my current time in Korea, I did some research and was directed to this company: http://www.egsimcard.co.kr/
You can pre-order a sim card, and pick it up at the airport when you arrive in Incheon, granted you have an unlocked phone, which is what I did.
I pre-ordered the card and installed it upon arrival, and everything was fine. I paid 25,000 won, and was told that I would have 10 minutes of calls (calls to be made from my phone) and that I wouldn't be charged for incoming calls or texts.
I didn't call or text anyone.
I received ONE call. ONE SINGLE CALL, from the son of a student of mine from KTown, LA. This call was made by this person from here in Korea. He was calling me from Gangnam, and I was in Myeongdong when I received the call. The distance is not that far from Gangnam to Myeongdong. Within three minutes, the call was dropped.
I tried calling him back, and I received a message in Korean stating that I had exceeded the maximum number of minutes, and that I would have to pay to "top up" the card.
I contacted the company, this company: http://www.egsimcard.co.kr/, and they told me that I would have to download an application on my smart phone and pay more money to "top up" the card.
What a f***ing waste of money. What a bunch of m***erfu**ers, taking advantage of foreigners, promising them a product which doesn't come through.
Spread the word. EG SIM, a f***ing rip off. |

If you were given information that stated you'd have 10 mins of free talking (even just told by the spoken word) yet only got 3 mins....then that would be in violation of your consumer rights.
The Korean Consumer Agency (website is all in Korean unfortuntely)
http://www.ccn.go.kr/index.ccn
If you live in Korea and had your consumer rights violated then here's what you can do if you don't speak Korean.

Sorry about your raw deal. |

It's not the money issue which I am concerned about. Yes, I was ripped off, not surprising.
I simply contacted heaps of consumer affairs agencies in and out of Korea (in countries which Koreans do business, and vice versa), and sent copies of my complains to EG sim. Within a few hours, they topped up the card for free. Awesome. |
