Sure, have a good time, but commit to living with your means. If you're making 10 million a month, blowing a million a month on boozing it up isn't going to dent your reality. If you're making 2.1? Yeesh. Even with privates, well, you get the point.

Hahaha - I have never seen that in all my time in Korea. ESL teachers are the tightest bastards known to man, unashamed in cadging, stealing and 'borrowing' stuff in the name of paying off their debts at home, thinking that everyone else has to pick up the tab, they are pretty shameless, I have never met the ESL teacher who spent a million won on themselves. I have seen many an ESL teacher run out of a cab and into the dark or run out of a restaraunt rather than pay their share of the bill though. |

They're out there. Maybe the trend has changed more in line with what you're saying, though. This recession seems to have scared people into responsibility. |

This has mostly been my experience too. The constant references to soju ( I assume they're not drinking it for the taste) or how to cook more imaginatively with tinned tuna. The 7 11s in foreigner areas with huge groups of ESlers outside late at night, the adverts selling second hand magazines on Waygook, along with 13 pages of money saving tips. It's not exactly a culture of excess. The only ones likely to spend the kind of money you're talking about people with serious problems such as alcoholics, gamblers or sex addicts. |
