Looking for some advice!
I applied through a recruiter for GEPIK and was told my application and introduction video were good and I would have a good chance at getting an offer. I am 28, have my TEFL/TESOL certification, a 4 year BA, no teaching experience. My recruiter said she had been sending my information to schools but no one was showing any interest and she didn't know why because I am a good candidate. I have read posts that some people have difficult getting a position because of skin colour. I am from the Caribbean (indian decent) so I don't know if that is working against me. My recruiter said there was nothing wrong with my appearance though.
I waited until Mid July and when I followed up I was told that due to the budget cuts for GEPIK that I should start considering other recruiters and/or jobs with Hagwons. I understand that GEPIK is very competitive and there are a lot less jobs than in previous years so I don't have any issues with my recruiter and she's actually very nice and helpful. Now that its already late July my chances of getting a GEPIK placement are pretty much gone so I've decided to apply for EPIK in 2015 instead.
I saw on the EPIK website that they will be accepting applications on August 1st. I have all the documents for my E2 Visa already so I don't need assistance with that. I have read lots of posts and there are positive aspects to going direct through EPIK and going through a recruiter. I couldn't help get the feeling she moved onto other candidates, but then again maybe that is just because GEPIK opportunities just aren't there? So my question is, do I continue working with my recruiter or would I have better chances going direct through EPIK?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks. |
