The Korean police/the Korean immigration recently came to my hagwon to see all of the Native English instructors had their documents on file.
As it is my second week working at my new hagwon, my employer has yet to process any of my documents and I have my FBI CBC and Apostilled Diploma ready. Obviously, they would like to see my US passport and my F-4 visa.
I already have an F4 visa, but when I submit my FBI CBC and Apostilled Diploma:
1.) How many photographs do I need to submit along with these documents?
2.) Do I have to show proof that I have Korean health insurance (I am insured under my Korean Wife, and do not need one from my hagwon.)?
3.) Do I have to take a medical test, if they request me to take a medical test, or is this an option I can just choose not to do. The reason for this is because another teacher at my hagwon was caught with marijuana and fled the country a few weeks ago. I already got a medical examination back in September 2012 and hope that is still good to go, or is my 6 month grace period already over. I am drug-free, and prefer not to go through another grueling medical examination.
4.) Do I have to submit my US passport and F-4 visa here (Again, these Korean immigration police officers are all "paranoid" and "going overboard" because of that one teacher who fled due to his "royal-pain-in-the-butt" marijuana conviction.).
5.) Is there anything else I need to show them as proof that I am legally-able to work as an English instructor at a hagwon in South Korea? |

1. One or two will likely suffice although I would bring a couple of extras...just in case.
2. Probably not, although again I would bring the proof just in case they do ask for it.
3. If the police or Immigration are requesting that you take a medical check...it is very likely not optional. September 2012 was a year and a half ago so yes your "six month grace period" is long over.
As for "grueling"...you must be joking.
4. You can show them the info on the passport and give them a photocopy. That should suffice. But yes the Immigration of any country has the legal right to request your passport...although not to hang on to it any longer than absolutely necessary.
5. The F-visa should be all the proof you need. |
