I know there are different types of YBM schools and locations, but I'm asking in general what are some pros and cons of working for a YBM school.

info: I'm experienced in Korea, I'm not afraid of heavy workloads (as long as im compensated)

My job searches have been futile and I feel like I should just take one of their jobs since there are a lot of them right now.

Definitely will depend on which YBM and where.

Well, I see listings for Daechi LIA , Bundang PSA/LIA and SungbukECC.

So I guess, I'm just looking for general impressions about the system they use and the good/bad things people have experienced.

I worked for YBM PSA in 2005. It was my first job and I was there six months (they gave me 30 days notice at five months). I don't really know where to begin with my experience there... let's see, I got paid on time, I didn't get along with my boss or co-teacher, the students were cute, some of them spoke English well, and even though I had trouble teaching them because I had no experience at the time, I liked (almost all of) them.

I probably haven't been that helpful, but again, I don't know where to begin. If you have questions, I'm happy to help. Keep in mind though that this was nine years ago, and who knows how much of my experience is particular to me or that particular branch of YBM.

From what I hear (secondhand experience), they are like any big ESL business in Korea. Pros are you get paid on time and there is some level of stability that you wouldn't find at a smaller mom-and-pop hakwon. Cons: no one there gives a crap about actual education, and the staff are generally useless. I used to tutor a little girl who attended one of their preschools, and their material used to infuriate me. She was six years old and her vocab list had the word "myriad" on it. A friend of mine did a summer camp with them and the schedule they had prepped made it clear that none of them had ever been anywhere near a classroom (really terrible time management, hadn't a clue what kinds of activities would take how long).

HOWEVER, if you don't really care about those sorts of things, I suppose you could do worse. People always complain about the big chain hakwons, but at least you know what to expect. Better the devil you know and all that.

I just finished at Sungbuk ECC. That ad is for either my position or one of my friend/co-worker's. You can PM me if you have questions.
