Browsing Slate, I stumbled across this- The U.S. Army guide for getting along with our allies, S. Korea in particular. Reading the whole thing, I couldn't help but have that 1940s-50s film reel narrator voice in my head.

A good read, some errors, some quaint expressions, and that distinctive old style way of making a point. It had a certain optimism and authority in its style.

Good find. And the timing is interesting. Sept/Oct '50, so just as we were regaining control from the North's push to Busan and right before the Chinese entered the war.

Interesting--didn't know that "gook" predated the Vietnam war--I'd always been told it was from Korean troops in Vietnam saying "Han-gook".
Overall good advice. Delivered in a less condescending manner than that of Eagle FM or AFKN.
And kimchu--hilarious.
