|
|
Feels like momentum is building for legalization of pot in the USA. The majority seem to think it is a great idea. They point out it is a plant, not addictive, has medicinal uses, decreases violence, and that criminalizing good people is bad. The war on drugs did nothing. It all sounds quite logical, right?
Here's what I think would actually result from legalization --> acceleration towards "Idiocracy" state.
Specifically: 1) Increased obesity. 2) Increased metabolic syndrome (because eating more food means eating more sugar and processed grains, given the food supply). 3) Increased sedation (less action, including violence, but also less risk of revolution or speaking out). 4) Increased healthcare costs (immobile mountains of central obesity). 5) Less work (which fits because there are no jobs, and no use for these people, keeps them quiet). 6) Less critical thinking (no job, plus isolation, plus pot, plus the internet = mystical thinking, which is already a problem). 7) Increased isolation (don't go outside, but also don't travel because too stoned, and don't have a job, so no money).
I say legalization of pot leads to accelerated "Idiocracy" -- characterized by fat, apathetic, isolated, jobless, passive, mystical thinkers.
Current state, but more so...

Thoughts? Alternate scenarios? |

It seems like you've never met anyone who has done the drug, so are making dumb assumptions and using it as a chance to bash America. |

That doesn't seem accurate, I'm an American, just about everyone I know has done the drug.
Are they still "dumb assumptions" if they turn out to be what happens? |

We're they all fat? My own anecdotal evidence suggests most were actually skinnier than average.
Also, you know, science

No, but my forecast is that after the smoke clears (say 20yrs from now), Americans will all be fatter.
It's a certain win on my part as a forecaster, since they will be fatter, and you can't prove it wasn't the dope. |

Except, for the science, that is.... And if they are skinnier one could say it is from the dope |

You don't want to take that bet, they won't be skinnier. Let's stay based in reality... |

That gives me an idea for a new health initiative to fight obesity. |

Will you market the pot to all the thin Koreans?
This seems like a bad idea on multiple levels. |

Free pot in Texas. It will get them all to calm down, and even if I'm wrong they can't get much fatter anyways. If they get skinnier I will have stopped an epidemic. |

I see.
What about #3, increased sedation? This seems like an easy prediction to me. We have to ask the question, why is the USA allowing this legalization now? It makes the masses easier to control I would think? Pot smokers are calmed as you say, less likely to take action. |

Tax revenue. State and local governments are broke. |

Makes sense. Why let the drug dealers keep all the money? |
