I'm trying to help a friend prepare for her University Admissions Interview. I have generic type university interview questions, but I wonder if anyone has been able to find a list of questions that might be asked in a Korean university just for a double check. My search came up with nothing really of significance. I'm aware that all universities will be different, but it can't hurt. Her program will be an international focus and I believe the interview will be in English.

Thanks in advance.

When I did my admissions interview for a uni in Korea they just asked me about my background and what I wanted to accomplish in life. They also asked me questions about my interests and what in particular about the course made me want to apply.

My interview was held in Korean, but I imagine it would be pretty much indentical in English.

Although if she isn't a native speaker they might ask higher level questions to see how she copes with the language.

I think the poster above pretty much nailed it.. Im going to assume your friend is entering a graduate program.

They should be prepared to speak about their field of study, for example you mention she is of an international focus, so a question about what particular area (international relations or commerce for example) and within that, what sub areas are points where she has an interest and plans to focus her research.

It is strictly my opinion, but I think most of the questions are more geared to gauging English ability rather than determining admission based on the answers. The very top-tier universities may be judging based on answers and their depth, but i think most are not that serious.

If the interview will be done by a panel of professors, her answers should be detailed concerning her areas of study and interest, past releated experience/study...etc. . If its just some admissions officer in the international office, things will be much more generic.

Here are some examples:

Generic International office sample questions:

Why do you want to study in Korea?
Why did you chose this university?

Questions about family/hobbies...etc

What do you plan to do after graduation?

Sample questions from Professor(s)

What will be your area of research, and why?

What experiences or previous study do you have that related to above research, and how do you think it applies/will be helpful to you?

Why did you choose this program (similar question as IO question, but more looking for reason relating to the excellence of the program/professors/research/accreditation...etc

What are your plans after completing this course (as in , PhD program)

What skills/experiences/abilities do you think you have that can add to our department?

What are your areas of weaknesses, and how do you plan to improve them?

When I had an interview for the Business School at Korea University (one of, if not the best business school in Korea) years ago, the interview was with a panel of three professors. In the interviews, they would call in three applicants at a time..and ask perhaps 3-4 questions to each. Some of them were rather trivial, others were down right serious...but the whole thing lasted no more than 10 minutes.

Thank you all very much. Pretty much confirmed what I assumed.
