We all eat it. When we are broke or even when we have money.

And I'm bored and I want to know your reviews and favorites. And if you can find it, please post a pic, so we can look for your favorite on the shelves.

For me, the mother of all ramen is:


I love it dry. I love it wet. I'll eat it on a plane, I'll eat it on a train. I'll eat it in a house and even with a mouse. No one mess with my Nongshim Shin Ramen.

Try it dry and eat it out of the bag. It makes for a great, spicy snack. If anyone has tried another that is spicier, please let me know.

Let's hear the reviews and crown the offical ramen/ramyeon of Dave's Korean forums!

That's the exact ramyeon I eat often!

The spicy red label is all I ever see when I go shopping. I'm not even sure what other kinds are available, I'm so tunnel visioned about it.

I prefer it in the round containers for a quick fix in the mornings and ofr night time, like... right now!

I only eat the wimpiest of all the brands, Jin Ramen (Mild). Too much abuse to my stomach in law school means I can't touch spicey food anymore.

I always go for the Hyunmi Ramen. It doesn't have those stupid dehydrated mushrooms in it.

Great thread, Chronicpride!

First of all, please do help settle an extremely silly debate that's just cropped up here. Got five (really bored) korean and ex-pat friends staring at your post with me, all of them with different opinions as to why you used that Japanese word instead of "ramyon" in your thread title.

Could it be because...

1) "Ramen" has become such an everyday generic term in the West (like kleenex, xerox, etc.) to refer to any oriental-style instant noodles (Japanese, Korean, Thai, Chinese)

2) You're so f.o.b. (not my opinion) that you either don't know, or aren't very familiar with or comfortable saying "ramyon"

3) You are concerned that a significant percentage of the readers might not be familiar with "ramyon" but they'd all know "ramen"

4) (again, not my opinion) You consider it an extremely subtle put-down of the Koreans to insist on using the Japanese term (EVEN THOUGH you've included "ramen/ramyon")

5) (not sure I completely grasp this one myself) You think that using the Japanese term gives you an air of cosmopolitan sophistication and an image of not having "gone native" like other foreigners, a linguistic preference to boost your self worth and thereby debase that of the rest of us (God, that was painful just to listen to... PLEASE understand it's not my opinion!)

There, now that's out of the way. Hope you can stop the tongues of the chattering waygooks & natives from wagging further. I look forward to getting back here with my own independent reply to your really welcome thread (wish I'd authored it myself) in a moment or two.

I thought the English word was 'Noodles'. No one in the UK or Ireland call it 'Ramen'.

Shin Ramen is the best! I won't touch anything else! Well, MAYBE on the side of a mountain in near-freezing weather.

I think "ramen" is the English (or American English) word for "cheap Asian fried extruded noodles."

It all tastes like @rse anyway. We had a class about 'junk food' a few weeks ago and the kids were really suprised that I thought ramyeon (wtf is ramen?) was junk food. I love good noodles but ramyeon or however you want to spell cr@p in a plastic bowl is a disgusting substance.

Good god, Ramyeon makes mcdonalds muck look like healthy eating! Even 'pot noodle' for us brits is far superior. Korea is the only country that glamourises 'dumpster diving' aka 'Wombling' for food. Not even the Wombles went around looking for skip food, in fact they even had a French chef on the crew!

Period. Korean food is rubbish and I wouldn't feed Korean junk food to a dog unless that dog happened to be Kim Jong il in which case I'd substitute warm water for luke warm urine.

i like most of the milder ones. i'm sorry i can't remember the name off-hand, but the black noodle one is really great. also, after boiling it, i usually fry the noodles.

also, for breakfast, i usually through a couple eggs when its good and hot, and some rice cake noodles( i think the name is daok?). that is a damn tasty meal in my opinion. how do you eat your ramyon???

I live on these "disgusting substance".

"Nuggori" mild is good(the one in a white pack).

"Zappaghetti" is also good.

"BiBimMyun" is a must in those hot summer days.
