Hey guys,

I arrived in Seoul a few weeks ago and it seems that my looks here are very much appreciated(young, quite tall/fit, blond and blue eyes) and many of the koreans I've talked to think I'm a model. It's all very flattering and so I was thinking of actually trying my luck as a foreign model here.

Now I've been searching here and there but haven't really found a good answer to where I should start looking for agencies.

Do you know of any good agencies located in Seoul that I may contact? Or if you have any other tips about the modelling business here I would appreciate it a ton.

Best regards,
TheFrog!

I don't have my degree yet(but I'm getting there) and I see nothing wrong with doing part-time modelling during my stay here in Seoul. I don't have any intention of dropping out of school.

You seem to think that models cannot be emotionally and intellectually mature/developed? I find that quite naive of you.

I found some posting on craigslist but I'm feeling quite unsure about sending my personal info to an unknown craigslist-poster.

Be careful some of those are hooker agencies. Some Korean women have posted a resume and a pic online only to have to be cautious about meeting and the company involved. Next thing she knows, she's being taken somewhere in a black van.

My first thought is... you are a troll.

Troll or not, the inviting of newcomers is almost the same. "You handsome guy." "You so pretty." Unless of course you are 155cm tall, or 175cm tall and weigh 110kg.

I'm not a troll but I agree that maybe I could've expressed myself better in my initial post, for that I'm sorry. It even seems some of you might've been offended and that was absolutely not my intention.

What I wanted was just a friendly conversation with someone that might have some experience within this area of work here in Seoul.

I think what the other poster was getting at was that it is VERY common for Koreans to make positive comments about another's appearance when they first meet.

"You're so handsome/beautiful." "You look like <insert movie star name>." "Are you a model?" These are all VERY common lines thrown out there to build a good feeling when meeting new foreigners. That, plus these are pat phrases that, for whatever reason, Koreans latch onto when they start learning English.

Not saying you're not attractive, but if you aren't good looking enough to get modeling work in N. America or Europe, don't expect things to be much different here. You'd more than likely be looking at home shopping kind of gigs, maybe some minor print ad stuff, none of which would pay all too well. Agents here, much like anywhere else, are blood suckers.

Thank you for your elaborate answer.
Since I'm totally new here I wasn't really aware of how foreigners are initially treated and where I come from people are way to stiff to compliment others.
I've never tried getting a modelling gig before but(as many others) I've always wanted to try and maybe I got a little bit too excited when people treated me like rockstar wanting to take pictures and all the verbal flattering.

Not saying to quit the idea before you even bother flushing it out properly, but it's good to know up front that you're a novelty or foreign flavor of the month when you first get up and running here.

There have been countless threads over the years lamenting the fact that pretty much any western guy here has a better than average shot of dating way out of their league; perceptions of what constitute 'good looking', while quickly globalizing in this age of hyper connectivity, differ across cultures. Having said that, most western guys are in general agreement when it comes to Korean women and what is and decidedly isn't hot.

Best advice? Knock out your degree so you can work and then pursue it as a side hobby. Might pan out, probably won't, but you won't regret not trying and you won't have to sleep on park benches in the interim.

I was invited to audition by a model agency about 7 years ago, they do exist. I ignored it at the time.

They get prospective models photos and email addresses from recruiters.

There is actually a guy on Daves who works for a modeling agency, his name is Steelrails.

So if he contacts you via PM and asks you to send nude pics of yourself dont think anything of it, just send them.

Good Luck.

Koreans think I am a model too...

But... actually they don't?

Koreans just say stuff like that. They are trying to be friendly.

Some of my closer Korean friends tell me the "truth" and say I am not very handsome. However, I think they are usually trying to prevent me from becoming arrogant or cocky.

So, at the end of the day I have no idea what they think.

Well, actually I do have some idea...

OP... You don't understand Koreans.
