Just wanted to share this glimmer of good news, mostly to help google search and anxious minds.

Perhaps the most important bit of news to share ever. You can, in fact, collect your pension after you change over to a D10.

I visited Suwon immigration on Thurs 8/21 to change to D10. I got the letter (that states I can come and go without worry to new visa status) and they even took my alien card. New card to go to my old school by delivery. As I'm still out of the country, I don't even know if the card came yet, but I presume so.

I visited the Sanbon pension office on Tues 8/26 (with printed copy of old e2 card) and set up for deposit to my Korean bank account.

I left the country on Sun 8/31. Deposit appeared today, Tues 9/16.

Got your pension? I've heard of some pension offices telling folks they can only get a pension refund in Korea. Dumbest thing I ever heard.

I should add this is possible because the two countries have a pension agreement signed between them. I also called the Canadian pension office a couple of years ago and they said that you can apply for your Korean retirement benefits through the Canadian pension office. The Canadian CPP will pay you what they owe you and the Korean government will pay you what they owe you.

This is, of course, if you don't cash out the Korean pension. But what I am unsure of is I had ehard you had to pay into the Korean pension for at least 10 years to qualify. Not sure as I haven't called the Korean to verify.
