I want to take a day off next week to go interview for another job.
I can call in sick that morning, but it is more professional to let them know ahead of time.
My company has 3 personal days a year, so the option is there. But it is usually for emergency in the family or some other reason like that.
I would like to take a personal day, but not say that I am interviewing for another position. Any good idea for a personal day off?
I am single and live alone; pretty much any family reason is no good.
Thanks,

Is this a job you will take after quitting, or after your current contract ends?

If I take the new job, I would have to break the contract I am on.
So I really can't let them know about the interview.

I personally believe in the diarrhea excuse. Koreans seem to constantly have upset stomachs, so its the one thing they have any empathy for.

Id call in that morning - fug professionalism - they certainly wouldn't show you the same respect.

IF you are on an E2 then good luck.
Breaking a contract and going to a new job is problematic at best and impossible due to visa issues at worst.
Just call in sick that morning and pray for the best.

IF you are on an F2/4/5/6 then just call in as an absentee and go for it.

Just shi* your pants at work the day before, in the office in front of all your co workers.

Then you're golden.

Plus when the other place asks you 'how badly do you want this job?' you can tell them! Cool

It is an E-7 visa.

The new position, if I took it, would be government related, if that mike make it any easier.

If you call in sick, they will either come round to your apartment to check that you really are sick, insist on taking you to the doctor, or demand a doctors note.

So then just tell them ahead of time that you want one day off as specified in the contract, because your cousin is on a stopover flight and is visiting you and you want to show him Seoul tower because its the best in the world.

Sorry,I don't have any good ideas for you. I DO ,however, know for certain, that if you call in sick, they will come to your apartment and take you to the doctor/hospital. Missing a day of work in Korea=near death!

Do you have 3 personal days or 3 sick days? If sick days, they are NEVER meant to be used. Period.

Thanks for the ideas. So far I have:
- personal day for relative on stopover
- just call in sick that morning

and a note about how hard it is to cancel a E series visa (thanks).

Any other good reason for a personal day ( I get 3 personal days a year and 5 sick days, but should have a reason for the personal day )
Thanks,

WOW! That's great. You have a job with good benefits. Also,
remember to "look" sick the day before. That helps with the call-in the next day.

I have never heard of a contract that has personal days. It's so un-Korean.

It seems you have a choice. Go for the personal day and see what happens, or fake sick.

If you go the route of the personal day, please post here and let us know what happened. I am intrigued.

OP, I vote for you shatting your pants at work the day before.

Followed by a high pitched 'oh-tuck-aye' 'oh-tuck-aye' Exclamation
