I was just wondering if everyone's pension refund is taking as long as mine. Everyone I know who left Korea in the last couple of years got their pension in 2-3 weeks. I was prepared for 1 month maximum because that's what the guy at the pension office suggested. But now it's been a month. I called them and he said "maybe" by next week (he said they got a lot of applications).
Also, my Korean co-teacher, despite being asked maybe 5 times, failed to write me a letter of recommendation. She kept saying she would. She was self-conscious because of her English. (I know I should've just written one and had her sign it but who knows, if someone calls her, that she's not going to tell them I wrote it? She's unpredictable.) There's no way I'm getting it now. Do you think it'll be a big deal if I don't have one for my next job? I don't even know how I'll prove I worked in Korea. I have a "Certificate of Employment" which was for student loan companies, but it's dated a random date in early August, and says I worked there "2011-present." |

What POE did you work for? Contact them directly and ask for letter's confirming your date of employment. Can they email it to you? Call and ask via skype.
As for letter of reference, just write one yourself and put her name on it and hope for the best.
As for pension refund, can you call the english pension line and find out?
I hope you kept a copy of all the phone numbers and of your alien ID number so you could check or reference these things. If not, you're SOL. |

Thank you Weigookin74 and SeoulNate for the info.
I turned in my ARC at immigration. I'm not sure if I have the number anywhere or not.
I got an e-mail from NPS in Korean. My friend translated it and it says to open the attachment, enter a code (which is apparently the last 7 digits on my ARC card), and open some file. But the attachment won't open in any browser. And even if it did I don't know the last 7 digits. The pension office guy says it's probably just general info about my pension though. |

Did you apply for any other jobs while in Korea? Or buy anything online? You may have used your ARC number for that kind of thing. Small chance but worth a think. |

Those are good ideas, thank you. The pension office used my birthdate & didn't need my ARC. So as long as the e-mail wasn't important, it should be fine.
Mainly I wanted to see if anyone else's refund was taking this long. Maybe a month is average. But everyone I know had theirs in 2-3 weeks.
I wrote to my former co-teacher and asked her to write a letter of recommendation in Korean, and told her I would get it translated into English. All I can do is try, and ask. |
