|
|
Hi,
Have arrived in Seoul with paperwork for Immigration complete and ready to go. I plan on seeing Star Teachers tomorrow but despite having looked back on the forum, I'm still looking for a few other decent agencies people might have had good experiences with here in Seoul as well.
Is anyone able to recommend one or two more reputable agencies I can contact here in the capital in the coming days? Thank you. Just to enhance my chances of finding a contract somewhere in the country. (I know to keep from each of them any knowledge I might have approached another agency).
Thanks very much in advance. |

1. use this site, or the other bazillion sites out there that list job postings.
2. reply to said job posting
3. viola, you are now working with a recruiter |

Hi
I too thought my best hope to get a decent, well not horrible, job was to get connected with good recruiters. But the truth is, most recruiters are so busy, will not always really know that much about the job, and will definitely also not tell you all the negatives of the job. (they get a big payment when they secure you to a job, and many people use a lot of recruiters, so they have to act quickly).
So, just apply for the jobs that sound good to you.. Apply to as many as possible and take what the recruiter says with a grain of salt. (esp, always, location..they almost always exaggerate its closeness or downplay how long it is from a subway etc).
If you want only public schools, (which is not the best time I think, right now, although there are some PS avail. at all times), some recruiters do specialize in this.
There are I guess some bad recruiters, and maybe great ones, but really, you should be applying for the jobs on the websites.
Then, if you like the director, ALWAYS, get a foreigner who worked there email
and, while they will not always tell you negatives, you can get a sense of the good and bad.
PS: Some recruiters might say no to this request, push for this, and they will get it.
Be wary of recruiters.
Their pay comes from the job owners and they really do not want to piss them off. |

Here's my experience:
Fellow foreign teachers can often be a bad source of information. Because A, they need to find a replacement to get their bonuses. B, they are ok with getting stepped on, and want to find a similarly feeble person or C, they just don't really know What's up.
Recruiters, well....some good, some bad. There's a lot of bait and switch tactics, lot of misrepresenting the hours, pay, etc...but the biggest thing is your image, your appearance. Basically, stuff you can't change. Age, facial attractive ness, etc..so if I recruiter starts asking your birth year or change your picture to a "good one" etcc move on to a marginally less slimy one. |
