|
|
Seems like the image of foreign ESL teachers in Korea will be further tarnished with this latest large bust of marijuana dealing teachers.
I just don't get it. It seems like foreign ESL teachers are ALWAYS busted for smoking weed in Korea, but yet every year new morons try to get away with it anyway.
It's pretty simple -- in Korea, you can get as drunk as you want as often as you want, and you can take advantage of plentiful prostitution services, or you can just date the never-ending supply of locals seeking to exchange sex/love for language lessons, but just don't smoke weed.
People just don't seem to want to accept the realities of working in Korea.
Dozens of foreign English teachers arrested, booked for drug crimes

Hardly shocking.
What kind of dumb ass would come to Korea and smoke weed??? I've never even considered such foolishness. |

"...the arrested Nigerian drug dealer has taught English at a kindergarten in Yongin near Suwon while he was under the influence of marijuana."
WTF?
"An American English teacher, who was among those arrested, shaved all his hair to evade a drug test, but he was tested positive in a urine examination..."
HA!!
"Under South Korean law, marijuana users can be sentenced to a maximum of five years in jail or fined up to 50 million won."
I say give them all five years, on the charge of stupidity. |

Thanks for clarifying.
Given the number arrested I wonder who here they caught...maybe none...maybe... |

Teaching in a Korean English language kindergarten? Really is being high going to alter your performance much? I think it'd be pretty easy to teach a kindergarten class stoned. It'd be much more challenging with a cracking hangover than high, IMO. |

Koreans don't care about performance. It's criminal behavior. And stupid. |

Well, that seems pretty stupid.

I agree. But, apart from the legal danger, I don't see it as anymore morally suspect than going to work with a hangover. |

You wouldn't happen to know where a guy could score an ounce of medical would you? |

Every summer it seems like there is a bust. I can't find the article, but I thought some Korean-Americans were running a weed ring out of Hongdae last year and it was the same kind of massive sweep. IIRC, there were only about 12 that time. |

I wouldn't want drug users teaching my kids.
Those arrested knew full well that drug use in Korea is a crime. I have no sympathy for them. |
