The problem is, they're paying them 1.5 million Won - a much lower salary compared to the going rate in the ESL industry in South Korea.
It's just so pathetic that this kind of institutionalized government sanctioned discriminatory policies against Koreans, are so standard and go unchallenged as if it's perfectly natural to do so. You would think that having the knowledge of two cultures and in many cases, knowledge of two languages, would put them above the average salary rate. But no, since the whole system is based on race of the teachers, this is the way it is. |
This post made me laugh. People don't need a bachelor's degree to teach for the TaLK program. That's why they get paid less. It has nothing to do with racial discrimination. |

Not to mention that there are plenty of non-gyopos who participate in TaLK, in many cases you can earn college credit while getting paid, and they (at least used to) take you on field trips that actually sounded kind of cool. |

And they aren't getting paid less.
They only teach 3 hours a day...a total of 15 hours a week.
If you do the math, it is right on par with the crap wages in the ESL industry. |

And they start work at friggin' 12. Normal people hours usually start around 8 am-ish. |

Chucky goes on to say:
Not to mention the fact that these ethnic Koreans are expected work in much harsher conditions in rural areas where there are fare less comfort and amenities. Non Koreans would have been offered at least 3 million to 4 million in those rural areas as compensation for working in tougher environment. Whichever way you dice it, this is discrimination, and Korean government thinks it's OK to discriminate against ethnic Koreans because they won't complain like the real foreigners would do.
3-4 million? Haha Jesus.
I think that is one of the reasons why some Koreans get so uptight about NETs. They have these delusional ideas about working conditions and salary. |

They're probably reading these comments right now, popping their zits, and preparing their spam bot.
