There is a new job on this site for FIET at HUFS. The package is one of the best I have seen in Korea, maybe the ESL industry in Asia.

Not easy to get hired though.

Again, SNU has some benefits like the apartment but the people there make it terrible.

universities pay less than they claim to after the smoke and mirrors, and the 40- 50 top schools are in general horrible places to be you can more or less sum it up this way : " (e.g., actual working hours always being longer, sudden firings being common, salaries being low, no respect given to foreign faculty, etc. " You are going to be treated worse than a servant.

If money is someones goal then ...

Bottom line The HUFS job gets blown out of the water. And it is not they are going to treat you well either.

Money is not everything but someone is going to choose a job because of a salary then go all they way.

You are wrong.

I never said it is all about money. Six months holidays are a starter as it is about the total package.

Saudi is like an open air prison. Further, BAE is for UK citizes only and the only other job in Saudi like that is for Americans.

I had a big paying job in Saudi and there are better jobs than that one such as Aramco.

You cant compare Korea and Saudi in terms of money.

At the big schools one will spend 2 weeks at the end of each term doing grading and (un)necessary administrative (full time) work and one week before the term getting ready for the term. Vacation means not having to work. But anyway that is NOT the real issue the real issue at big Korean school. What is important is that at one of the big famous schools one is under threat the entire time. Big Korean schools are horrible places to work (especially if you happen to be a non female ) and the pay (after deductions) isn't that much either , indeed it is low.

One will spend their holidays being upset about the next term. Working for one is like being sick for 8 months of the year. And eventually one will might end up being sick for real .

The administration/ in charge Korean professors at the big schools is full of themselves and sanctimonious as hell.

By the way At Korean University if the copier . computer or printer is broken or the website is down and you tell them about it it is "complaining". and if you don’t have your work in because of those problems then it is "being unprepared". That is what it like. If you work for one then you are lower than the cleaning ladies or the guard at the door. You are not a professor you are a servant.

"Contact hours" doesn't mean anything , only total work and trouble compared to total pay.

work at a Korean university at take the TOFEL to prove yourself for around 2.5 (maybe before taxes) after deductions.

Maybe you should distinguish between jobs in the 'ESL world' and jobs as English teachers. There are lots of jobs in the ESl world that trump HUFs or your Saudi example but they require more skills/experience/ambition than your average EFL teacher has

The best job in the world? Are you kidding me? It's just an average pay. 12 hrs of ESL teaching per week and 3.2 million.

And their pay for professors is terrible compared to other universities. HUFS is not a good school. It's the biggest Uni hogwon in Korea.

Sounds like you have emotional/health fixations that others probably dont.

You are welcome to give the big school (top 40) stuff a try. See how that turns out. Dont say you weren't warned. I hope they bomb you with essays while you make 2.7M. See how well you sleep at night then.

Geno

I assume you worked in Saudi. You call that teaching? Its babysitting. Maybe a wardon. And the country is the worst I have ever been to.

Collect your money? Yes. They do pay. But dont call it teaching. No one I ever met there does.

My main Question though, can one actually save money there, or are the salaries so high bc the cost of living is so high?

No prizes for guessing which level you get "determined upon hiring".
