I'm a longtime expat here in Korea. I've been slowly developing a video project which can be found online at www.vidtionary.com - though it's still somewhat in a 'beta' stage, I think it could be useful in a lot of teaching situations in Korea.
The goal of the site is to provide short videos (between 10-30 seconds) that introduce the majority of simple, basic English words (with a focus on verbs and things that move) - videos typically contain some kind of kinetic text, pictures of the word, and an audio recording. Each video has a wordless version, which can be used for eliciting the target vocabulary.
I haven't had the time yet to develop much in the way of teaching guides or lesson materials, but I will be.
At the time of writing this (October 30th), a practical activity for teachers would be the video-based quizzes for autumn and Halloween. Here are the links:
http://www.vidtionary.com/quiz/autumn-quiz
http://www.vidtionary.com/quiz/halloween-quiz
If the site is at all helpful or if you experience technical difficulties, I'd appreciate the feedback. Thanks! |

This is a fantastic project! Have no idea how you're creating these clips but would love to know. Very well done! |

Thanks for checking it out. I compile the videos with Final Cut Pro software on a Mac - I make most of the kinetic texts myself using a software called Motion. Then, I dig into my archive of my own footage shot or, when my own footage is lacking, I supplement the video with stock footage (available by subscription from Videoblocks.com and similar sites), public domain footage (especially from archive.org), and occasionally footage that people have posted to sites like Vimeo or Flickr with generous CC licenses.
Suffice it to say, it's been very time-consuming ... so, hopefully, the site will soon draw some visitors and make it all feel worthwhile |

I used to do stuff like this, but then I looked around the web and found that it had already been done or was 95% done. I took those things and tweaked them.
Not knocking you, just saying.
I had a look at a few of your vids some of the archive footage feels old and dated (coming from the viewpoint of someone in their 20s) - dunno how some one younger than me would feel, or who your audience is (guessing younger demo) |

Thanks for looking and giving some feedback. If there's a site with quite a similar concept, I'd appreciate it if you let me know, as until now I haven't found one. Though, I do recognize that the basic idea is pretty simple, and that there's a lot of media entities out there that could do something bigger scale and better if they put some of their resources to it (I just hope to find a bit of a niche in the meantime).
It's true that the archive footage can seem very dated, especially to a younger audience - I try not to use it too much, but end up going to when I can't get my own current footage; and, generally, I stay on the right side of copyright, so I don't often appropriate newer, better footage. |
